McCain's Bloggette launches

Via Jonathan Martin of the Politico, we learn that John McCain's 22-year-old daughter, Meghan, and a few friends have launched a group blog in support of John's candidacy, "McCain Blogette: Musings and Pop Culture on the Political Trail."

I love it. It reminds me of the good work Jenna and Barbara Bush did on the campaign trail for their father to help reach out to Gen Next voters and young professionals.

The good news, which we learn from the disclaimer at the bottom of the page, is that the blog is owned by Meghan McCain and is not affiliated with the official campaign. Why do we care who it's owned by? Because what that does is give Meghan and her friends a bit of breathing room and won't have to run anything by the McCain press shop.

In other words, better content in real time.

This could help the McCain campaign indirectly reach a new audience, women voters and Gen Nexters... two groups of voters I'm particularly concerned about this cycle.

Good work.

Shoes and Politics

I fall into their target audience, and they got me with this paragraph:

As much as we can, we will travel on the road with Senator McCain's presidential campaign and blog about our experiences along the way. In addition to the race itself, this includes all the behind the scenes action: notoriously cramped quarters, stale donuts and the fabulous shoes!

I've never really given a thought to the McCain campaign, but this looks interesting.

Shoes and politics, a winning combination for women.

I also apprently fall into

I also apprently fall into the blog's desired audience (20-something women) and I am no more likely to vote for McCain than I am for Huckabee, who's also sent his daughter out on the road to no avail. I've got my candidate in Ron Paul, who is the candidate most connecting with young people right now. Meghan even says in one of her posts that she went on a date in Arizona with a Ron Paul supporter.

I like Ron Paul because he's the best candidate on the issues. I don't know anyone my age who votes based on what shoes a candidate's daughter wears, sorry. Ron Paul does seem to  have some very stylish granddaughters, though.
