U.S. Senator John E. Sununu of New Hampshire (Slatecard profile) is a solid Republican. And he's up for re-election in 2008 in a fight for his political life against former Governor Jeanne Shaheen.
The race is no cake walk for Sununu. In fact, the DSCC is targeting Sununu and political expert Charlie Cook calls the race a "toss-up." [October 18 Sen Rankings PDF.] Stuart Rothenberg and Nathan Gonzales are reading the same "toss-up" tea leaves.
So I'd expect an incumbent Senator like John Sununu to have a modern, robust, comprehensive website for his re-election effort. Sure, it would probably look as boring and glossy to me as most of the other GOP factory widgets, but at least it would have a place for me to watch a few videos and find a bio for his Slatecard profile.
But I was wrong. What I found at TeamSununu.com was far worse:

Wait a minute. Seriously? That's Sununu's website? And is this really 2007?
I took a quick spin of TeamSununu.com in the WayBackMachine to see what his website looked like back in the good old days when he was running for election to his first term. In Spring of 2002 we see a familiar site:

So, the only thing that's changed over the past five years for TeamSununu.com is the family photo. Clever.
My guess (hope) is that this is not the final campaign website we'll see for Mr. Sununu. Perhaps they're building something really neat behind the curtains.
But in the meantime, why not pop up an effective splash page to better collect emails, embed a YouTube video message telling folks why they should support you, and add a link for folks to contribute?
As an example, Virginia's favorite tax-and-spend liberal, Mark Warner, is unfortunately doing a swell job adding supporters and treasure to his candidacy:

Senator, I support your efforts. I want you to win. We need to talk about your online strategy. Just about everyone who reads this little blog could make something more dynamic and effective in our spare time.
One of my favorite authors, Aldous Huxley, once said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you mad." I just hope the truth helps you campaign more effectively in the modern world (and I hope you're not mad at me for telling you).

the Senator needs help
Does Sununu realize how badly the Democrats are salivating over this race? They've practically printed Senate letterhead for Shaheen.
Yesterday I spoke with a couple of Republican women from New Hampshire. They support Sununu but are really worried over the race.
If the grassroots are worried, and people outside of NH are talking about it, why isn't Sununu fighting?
